Both work — the right choice depends on your team and budget. For lean teams we often run dbt Cloud's free Developer tier, which includes job scheduling and docs for a single project with no maintenance overhead; for one client we built their whole dbt foundation on it. It does have limits (one seat, one project, a monthly model-build cap), so a larger multi-project setup grows into dbt Core or a paid tier — dbt Core is also a strong fit when you want to self-host and already run orchestration like Airflow. We recommend the option that keeps your stack manageable without a dedicated data team.

Yes.
